Never has Information Technology Training been given such high priority as over the last year. In anticipation of going live with CASE (the Bureau's electronic case recording system) goals were set for certain computer skills/standards to be achieved before 1st April 2004.
Everyone completed an I T Skills Survey with questions ranging from keyboard/mouse skills, using programs such as Word/Excel, browsing the Internet, sending/receiving e-mails and using EIS2.
From the completed surveys, every person was scheduled one-to-one training in order to assist them reach a certain level of competence. We are indebted to Jim Fourt, our volunteer I T Trainer, who undertook a considerable amount of this work.
Training began in November 2003 and continued relentlessly until March 2004. Staff received mostly refresher training, whilst every adviser underwent training for up to 1½ hours every day that they were in the Bureau. Those who felt they needed extra practice either arrived early, stayed late or came into the Bureau on extra days. The advisers are to be congratulated on their commitment to this extra workload.
It has been hard work and a real team effort, but to everyone's credit, the goals have been achieved.
